For the mining sector, the SLO is an essential foundation for its activities and at the core of its sustainability. Today, the only way to be economically viable for a mining operation is to earn the SLO from all stakeholders and to operate in a socially responsible manner. For example, opposition to mines and failure to earn an SLO from local communities for mine development can stall or even prevent a project’s viability.
