Pick holders of radial picks have normally a prism shape. They contain a rectangular opening, into which the pick’s shaft is mounted. Dimensions of the opening and the shaft must be accurate enough to fit each other. A loose fit increases the risk of the deformation or breakage of the tool holder or the pick and might lead to the loss of the pick. Pick holders are typically welded on the working tool of the excavation machine.
