The shaft is fixed in a cutter mount attached to the cutterhead of the excavating machine. The rotating part consists of a hub and either one or several cutter rings (such cutting tools are called disc cutters). Disc cutters are normally employed in tunnel boring machines (TBM), shaft boring machines and mobile miners.
